Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ). The exercise challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes. 3MT® develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students' capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. From Skills to Results: Demonstrating Your Value to Non-Academic Employers

After briefly telling her own post-PhD story, Dr. Chambers will unmask the real PhD career pipeline and reveal contrasting notions of “results” inside and outside the academy. Then she will lead attendees in a well-organized sequence of hands-on activities in which they will identify their own most valuable accomplishments from this new perspective and learn how to describe them in language that will resonate with non-academic employers. In this half-day workshop, three Ph.D.-level coaches present on how to network and interview successfully by encouraging participants to be intentional, authentic, and articulate in their networking and interviewing process. Equipped with those three tenets, job seekers become empowered and confident as they manage their careers and conduct a job search campaign. This is open to current graduate students only.
